DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Cyber Security Specialist is responsible for protecting the Narragansett Bay Commission digital assets, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing robust security measures to safeguard against cyber threats. This position works under the general direction of the Information Security Manager. Collaborate with users to discuss computer data access needs, identify security threats and violations, and to identify and recommend needed programming or process changes. Uses data encryption, firewalls, and other appropriate security tools and applications to conceal and protect confidential digital information. Executes cybersecurity strategies to protect critical industrial control systems (ICS) and operational technology (OT) infrastructure against inadvertent or unauthorized alteration or destruction. Reviews violations of security procedures; provides training to ensure violations do not recur. Monitors and restricts access to sensitive, confidential, or other high-security data. Modifies security files and applications as able and necessary to provide specialized access, allow new software to be installed or integrated, or correct errors. Performs risk assessments, audits, and tests to ensure proper functioning of data processing activities and security measures. Investigate and respond to security incidents and breaches. Monitors and reviews security alerts for signs of unauthorized access or malicious activity. Conducts regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing to identify potential weaknesses in systems, networks, and applications. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, programming, or a related field required. At least three years of experience in computer systems with some specialization in computer security is highly preferred. Must have demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, be proficient, or able to gain proficiency with, a broad array of security software applications and tools, possess a thorough understanding of computer-related security systems including firewalls, encryption, and password protection and authentication, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be organized with attention to detail.
